UPDATE: County Extends 'Code Blue' Through Thursday Morning
The County has declared that winter conditions may pose serious harm or death to individuals without shelter.
UPDATE: [1/2/13; 2:35 p.m.] The Montgomery County Commissioners are extending the Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency declared earlier this week for Montgomery County.
The Code Blue declaration is now in effect starting at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 until 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3.

The Montgomery County Commissioners, on the advice of the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, have declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for Montgomery County based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service.
The Code Blue Declaration has been issued for Montgomery County for the period beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
A Code Blue Cold Weather declaration is made in Montgomery County when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter. A Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is anticipated to be 20 degrees or less.

And what happens when this "code Blue" is called? The people without shelters are unaware that it has been called because I'd be willing to be they don't have email (no place to plug in a computer) and they don't have TV (again, where to plug it and the cable in). So what's the point? Even if more space is made available in shelters, how do they get there, and how are they made aware of this? Just my thoughts for the day.

The are outreach workers that go to places homeless folks hang out to make them aware of the availability of shelter space due to the code blue.

It's also helpful to know about the alert if you have seniors or people who are ill in your family. They definitely need to be checked on and made sure they're taking care of during a code blue.
