Americans for Prosperity Launches $1.5 Million Ad Effort
Americans for Prosperity Launches $1.5 Million Ad Effort
Ad features former Obama voters who regret decision
HARRISBURG, PA - Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation's most effective
advocate for economic freedom, announced the launch of a $1.5 million ad buy
that expressly calls for the defeat of President Barack Obama. Starting
tomorrow, two powerful ads will begin airing in every major media market in the
state. The two ads will continue to air through November 6th.
AFP Pennsylvania State Director Jennifer Stefano said,
"President Obama's big government economic policies are driving up prices
for food and fuel, increasing the national debt, and killing jobs with a regulatory
assault on small businesses."
The first ad features former Obama voters who express their great
disappointment in President Obama's big spending and broken promises, saying
"The President has not earned reelection in 2012." Watch that ad here.
The second ad tells the story of Shona Holmes, a Canadian citizen who was
forced to seek treatment in the U.S. when the government-run Canadian system
denied her the care she needed. Watch that ad here.
"President Obama's agenda has had a deeply negative impact on
our nation's economy," continued Stefano. "The
message of this ad effort is that the American people cannot afford another
four years."
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is
a nationwide organization of citizen-leaders committed to advancing every
individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity. AFP believes reducing
the size and intrusiveness of government is the best way to promote individual
productivity and prosperity for all Americans. For more information,

What a clever way to place a free ad on Patch! All one has to do is announce the placement of paid ads in other media to get a free ad here? Should I look for an avalanche of announcements?

Well, if this anonymous group can advertise for free, let's present the other side. The size and intrusiveness of government has saved and is continuing to save the lives of millions affected by Hurricane Sandy. And, wasn't it just last month that Gov Romney said states can handle crises better than governmental agencies like FEMA ? Once again, his policies are frightening and dead wrong. States are incapable to deal with devastation like this.

why are you guys so angry? The Patch (a HuffPo media arm) is one big Obama love fest. With respect to paid ads, It is replete with items such as "Dinner with Barack" and "wish Barack a happy birthday". The unpaid items are the blizzard of comments and blogs by pro-Obama writers. You are just a little SCARED now that your rock idol President is doing so badly.

Not scared at all, I think Obama will crush Romney in the electoral college. They also have 0% chance of gaining a majority in the Senate. If anything Romney is the one exhibiting desperate behavior. Rs are just going to have to deal with the fact that they nominated perhaps one of the most dishonest, secretive and baggage laden candidates in history.

Besides not releasing his tax returns, what part of Romney's life is secretive? How long have people been digging anf digging only to find nothing? Open your eyes - Obama, the one who was to be the most transparent in history, has in fact been the most secretive in history.

For those of us who have lived through or spent time immediately after a catastrophic event know that a State alone could not financially afford to take care of its self. It takes a much wider population to help financially support States.
Just look at the amount of federal support the Southern states depend on and have depended on for years.

Earnest, Wal-Mart arrived in New Orleans long before FEMA and had the supplies that the community needed. Romney believes that states acting independently can handle the response to a vast East Coast storm better than Washington. He is not suggesting to starve the states of Federal dollars in order to accomplish what they must. His out-of-the-box thinking confuses many Dems, I see that in these threads.
Dems that fail even to consider how markets or decentralization can improve performance. It is the same story with Medicare. They have a model — as old fashioned and obsolete as it is — and they’re sticking with it. Forward?

Andrew, I thought I would provide an answer to your question since I partially agree with Catherine. Under FEMA the State is in control. FEMA provides assets and the States control application of those assets. One asset is money for emergency service, repairing, and rebuilding. No single state has the assets to pay for damages like NJ incurred from Sandy. FEMA can so it because amount to shared risk among. Every one pays in so the the damaged can be helped. Its the same principle as Insurance.

When Romney was asked he actually wanted to "privatize FEMA". Can you imagine what Disaster Relief for Profit would look like. States (like LA where they left thousands of buses to flood and did not evacuate people or NJ where the flood shelter was ONE BLOCK FROM THE OCEAN) do not always know best.

so obama supporters are depending on the "electoral college" to see that he is re-elected? So that statement means that Romney will definiately win the "popular" vote? Andrew, I feel strongly about this, having lived through Hurricane Irene in a northern state that hasn't recovered yet. yet the government is utterly failing. Those in Coney Island (which was ravaged) have seen no one from government/FEMA yet since the storm. A non-profit showed up there yesterday and is working with the churches. They have bands of thugs which they are now calling "Wolfpacks" who have looted the pharmacies and are breaking into homes where people are bunkered down. Again, the government is nowhere to be found. It is the churches and this non-profit that will get Coney Island back on their feet. These are the stories the lame stream media refuses to tell because they don't want Obama to look bad. And still as we bicker on here those people are locked in their homes afraid of the wolf pack. I just bought a van full or water, flashlights and food to take to the Philadelphia area to help out. What have you done my dear? Yeah, just sit there and nag. I'm doing something. I dont expect the government to help anyone because they stink at it and Coney Island is testimony to that.

David, 3 corrections to your mistakes.
1) Presidential candidates are not legally required to open up their tax returns for scrutiny. Romney showed 2 years which is 2 more than required.
2) Had the Romneys taken all of the deductions made available by their $4.02 million in 2011 donations, his effective tax rate could have been as low as 10.4 percent. By not using all the available deductions, he paid an additional $500,000 to the federal government than was required.
3. The GOP now leads in 6 Senate takeaways. But it is also within easy striking distance in Ohio and Florida, where incumbents are under 50 percent and Republican challengers Connie Mack (Fla.) and Josh Mandel (Ohio) are only a few points behind. It may even be possible to entertain daydreams of Rhode Island (Barry Hinckley) and New Jersey (Joe Kyrillos) going Republican.
The most likely outcome? 8 GOP takeaways and 2 giveaways for a net gain of six. A 53-47 Senate, just like we have now, only opposite.
Barack Obama's parting gift to the Democratic Party.
Then maybe Obama will reveal documents he continues to hide using Executive Priviledge: State senate papers. Academic transcripts. Book proposal where his agent says includes lengthy embellishments about his birth in Kenya, but the book was never released. Benghazi State Dept videos and memos. Medical records. List of small $ donors. Fast and Furious documents. ACORN White House guest list. I could go on.

There is absolutely no bottom to the lack of character abyss of this snake. Now he is willing to spend taxpayer dollars to compensate an employer for expenses to delay announcement of a massive layoff, until after the election. I keep asking myself, "aren't there laws against this"? Identical to the statement he told a Russian official that after the election " I can be more flexible". What other deals are "on hold", until after Nov 6?
The President is trying to hold off any announcement until after the election. This will make a significant increase to the questionable 7.8 % Unemployment number.
Lockheed is going to lay off 123,000 defense workers due to Obama's downsizing of the military. This hit the Drudge report yesterday. The law requires Lockheed to give 60-day notice to all to-be-fired employees within 60 days. That drop dead date would be November 1st. Since this would be devastating for his reelection, Obama has promised that our government would cover all Lockheed severance packages to fired employees if Lockheed would not release the names and locations of those losing their jobs until after the election! Do you have any idea how many millions that will cost the taxpayer? Thank you Obama!!

When all you can scream and holler about is tax returns, that means you have zero to run on. I know my friends at school and on the sidelines have seen through this garbage from day 1. When someone says it we give them a look like "are you serious?" Have you looked around at all the for sales signs and people hurting and all you can do is attack someone for paying what they are required to pay. My son asked me when he saw Disney bought Star Wars "mom, will Mr. Lucas pay taxes on that" I said "yes son, long term capital gains taxes" He said "how much is that?" I said "15%" "wow, you mean he has to pay the government $600 million dollars for what?" "I said Obama thinks he built that"

However our Supreme Leader granted them a special exception to break the law without any authority so that it would not be in the news and hurt his re-election campaign. It’s a joke and it will not play well in the Northern Virginia suburbs at all where Obama would need to clean house to even have a chance at winning VA (which he doesn’t) not to mention Ohio’s sizeable defense industry.
Desperate measures for desperate times including breaking the law.
And Romney's evil because he only showed 2 years of personal tax returns?

Question to the Dems: assuming all politicians are liars, saying anything convenient to win votes, then since somebody has to lead us at the local, county, state, and federal levels - on what will you base your voting decisions if not their words?
Their actual results, perhaps?
Then if that is the case, looking at Obama's personal business accomplishments as a student (sealed) or as an attorney (sealed) or then Illinois Senate record and 4-year Presidential record, comparing his results and votes, accomplishments and failures - against Mitt Romney's personal, student (earned an MBA at same time as law degree) professional and Gubenatorial accomplishments which include no failures - shouldn't your decision between these two "say anything" men be easy?

Marybeth, the "if he did" is a comment on Romney's statement that "if he overpaid his taxes he wasn't qualified to be President", Romney did not, in fact, overpay his taxes, he very likely way way underpaid due to the issue of the "missing" $7 million in income, it was on the estimated return but mysteriously gone from the final. Actually Marybeth, anyone with a basic knowledge of tax code regulations could spot the irregularities, and now Bloomberg has picked up on one issue I pointed out last month, the highly questionable transactions regarding the "foundation" to which the Romney's "donate" and from which they take "distributions", and in this manner avoided paying taxes.
As to your reverting to conservative insults, I can assure you, having been in business for over 13 years, my clients do very well. And yes, we use tax strategy, if you read my essay you will see, I point out that most likely, the Romney's aren't doing anything illegal, but highly unethical, how did they "lose" $3,000,000 in rent income? You either got paid those funds or you did not, its a cash basis item for most taxpayers, do what happened? It was on the estimated return but not the final. And other irregularities as well, which yes, many in the tax profession jokingly refer to as "shenanigans", people playing games to avoid paying taxes. Again, they may have found a "legal" machination to employ, but to get rid of $7,000,000 in income, most likely serious ethical issues at play.

President Obama and Lisa Longo do not seem to understand that this isn't even a Democrat v Republican political division. It's basic common sense. You cannot make a poor person richer by making rich persons poorer.
You will vote for Obama. And not vote for the success of America and yourself.

Actually Jack, you seem to be a typical conservative, when you can't make a valid point, you devolve into an adolescent insult machine. I have my own consulting firm, I am a CPA, I own two homes and do just fine.
I support our President and will help him get reelected because he is doing a good job, despite the infantile obstructionists in the House & Senate.
And not that you'll get this irony, but I have a financial management company, all I do is help people make money. What do you do?

Lisa, I suggest you give Jack's boss (see below) a call and let him know that he spends hours everyday posting this political propaganda on the company dime. I plan on calling and mailing Mr. Varano print outs of all these posts with the date and times as well.
I just hope Jack doesn't come asking "big government" for unemployment benefits when he is canned.

More reasons I dislike Obama and Democrats. They whine and blame and nothing gets fixed.

hey Richard -- quit being such a jerk... as i said in another thread where you posted this info, it's entirely inappropriate... if people like Jack want to post "political propaganda ALL DAY LONG on their companies dime" that's their own business... and what the hell is that comment about Marybeth being a dude instead of a woman? is that supposed to be funny?
i am saddened by the fact that the person whose Patch posts have made me the angriest today (you) is someone with whom i obviously share very similar political beliefs... but we apparently diverge on morals, privacy, and freedom of speech...

Oh Richard you make me laugh. I am not his boss so it's not my business. Maybe he has met his goals and produced enough so he can do what he wants with his time. Why do you care? Does anyone care why you or any of us are on here? Can I call your boss and complain? I'm my own boss so complain to me if you need to.
Unlike the welfare recipients (you name called yet again), Jack can be held accountable by his employer. If his boss thinks he's not doing a good job, he can fire him. Of course, Democrats would want him to join a union and not worry about being held accountable and then he could keep his job right? Or maybe, you don't think he is paid enough so his boss should give him a raise whether he's productive or not....greedy boss right? Or maybe his boss expects him to produce for what he gets paid and he does so he can post til his hearts desire...free market.
You are one crazy little Democrat now aren't you.
Do you have anything of interest that we might debate or are all your comments petty, attack based and silly?

The War on Women meme has failed, as Mitt Romney has caught up with women voters, according to a new AP poll released today.
Romney holds 47 percent support from likely voters to Obama at 45 in the new survey, which is a better standing for the former governor than the previous AP poll last month, which had Obama leading 47-46 percent.
However, the big news is that, among women, the gender gap is closing. Romney is now even with women when pitted against Obama, with both candidates getting the support of 47 percent of women voters. That is a drastic turnabout from the last poll, which had Obama ahead with women 16 percent.
This is despite millions in advertising from the Obama campaign and pro-abortion groups attempting to paint Romney as anti-woman.
On the economy, Romney has gained as well. Women favor Romney over Obama on the economy by 49 to 45 percent. Last month, Obama had the edge, 56-40

I have not seen the poll you suggest Marybeth, it certainly was not on poll tracker. The fox poll from 10/30 has Romney down by 8 points with women.
As a matter of logic would you trust a poll that varies by 16 points in one month. A person with common sense would dismiss such a fluctuarion. i think you are the out-"liar" here Marybeth. And those are your numbers not mine.

Governor of Lousiana Kathleen Blanco, and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, fought President Bush's efforts every step of the way, including early evacuation offers. He was on the phone with those two throughout, and goes into great detail in his memoirs, Decision Points, which I read. Those two would not cooperate on any level.
Proving again that the Feds cannot solve everyone's every problem, despite the "nanny state" mentality some support.

What so many here are missing is the undeniable fact that in 2008, 54% of likely voters identified as Democrat or lean Democrat. 42% of likely voters identified as GOP or lean GOP. In other words, the electorate, including independents who lean towards a particular party, was D+12. This year, however, the Democrat advantage has disappeared. 49% of likely voters today identify as GOP or lean GOP. Just 46% of likely voters are or lean towards the Democrats. This is a 15-point swing towards the GOP from 2008 to an outright +3 advantage for the GOP. By comparison, in 2004, when Bush won reelection, the electorate was evenly split, with each party getting support from 48% of likely voters.

http://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2012/11/01/report-obama-inauguration-preacher-says-america-is-going-to-hell-in-a-hand-basket/
Obama's reverend is at it againThe reverend who gave the benediction during President Barack Obama’s inauguration said America is “going to hell,” and white people may go with it.
Rev. Joseph Lowery, 91, made the comments at St. James Baptist Church in Forsyth, Ga., as part of a Southern Christian Leadership Conference tour to encourage African-Americans to vote for Obama, according to the Monroe County Reporter.
The paper reports that Lowery apparently told parishioners in the crowd that he is back to believing that all white people will not get into heaven because of what’s been happening during the campaign.
“I’m frightened by the level of hatred and bitterness coming out in this election,” Lowery said, according to the County Reporter.
Lowery blasted blacks for costing Obama the state of Georgia in the 2008 election because 390,000 African-Americans decided to stay home and not vote.
“I don’t know what kind of a n***** wouldn’t vote with a black man running,” Lowery extolled, according to the paper. “All that he did with the stimulus was genius. Nobody intelligent would risk this country with Romney.”
Lowery added that “America is going to hell in a hand basket.”

FYI, this just in: the Dem-heavy Franklin and Marshall poll showed Obama leading Romney in PA by 4 points, 49 to 45. This cuts in half Obama's 8-point lead he had just a week ago.
In response, Governor Romney is visiting Southeastern PA this Sunday.
Interesting. Two days before the election, with all of these hot battleground states like OH, WI, IA, NH, VA, FL trending his way - he decides to come HERE.
Hmm. Maybe Team Romney figures "yeah, we got this, so let's make a hugely decisive win and ask Pennsylvania for its 20 electoral votes, send a clear message."

Great news. How can people possibly support Obama when we've seen:
Unemployment over 8% for 43 months (more than all other Presidents since 1948 combined)
Played 100 rounds of golf, shattering previous Presidential records
Labor force participation now at 63.5% (lowest in 30 years)
Median household income down $4,500
Over 5 trillion dollars added to the national debt under Obama (more than any other President)
Addressed Congress only 6 times
Poverty rate over 15% (highest in 19 years)
Poverty rate now over 26% for Hispanic Americans
Over 27% Black Americans now in Poverty
Justification for Obamacare estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to cost 1.93 trillion dollars
Taking 716 billion dollars out of Medicare
Took 663 flights on Marine One (out of 980 work days since taking office)
Made 23 foreign trips repeatedly skipping Israel
Passed Healthcare Reform without Democrat Senators reading it
23 Million Unemployed or Underemployed
47 Million on Food Stamps
5.5 Million Homes in Crisis/Foreclosure
100% Increase in Gas Prices
Can you believe it?
